The Attorneys and Judges Assistance Program

AAP IS

CONFIDENTIAL & SAFE

WARNING:

THE PRACTICE OF LAW MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH

REMEMBER

The Attorneys and Judges Assistance Program was established by the Hawaii Supreme Court "to provide immediate and continuing assistance to lawyers and judges who suffer from problems."

Failure to deal with your stress related problems can lead to disciplinary complaints, malpractice suits, as well as the breakup of partnerships, and families.

STRESS

The AMA and the ABA say that there is a higher incidence of stress and depression among attorneys and judges than other professionals.

STRESS CAN LEAD TO:

Heart Attack • Strokes • Hypertension  Cancer • Ulcers • Alcoholism • Substance Abuse • Sexual Dysfunction • Family Problems • Partner Problems • Sleep Disorders • Burnout

Before stress causes you to self-destruct, consider your options...

HAZARDS

Tyring to relieve stress or depression with alcohol or drugs will only make the problem more severe.

THIS CAN RESULT IN:

Missed Deadlines  Malpractice Suits

Disciplinary Complaints  Loss of Clients  Loss of Ambition  Loss of Reputation  Misuse of Funds  Loss of Life

Eventually, crucial relationships with friends, workers, family, spouse and partners will be at risk.  We are here to help you avoid this end.

SOLUTIONS

WHATEVER THE PROBLEM,

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MANAGE ALONE

Continuing to try to manage alone is a symptom of the pathology of stress, distress, despair, depression, alcoholism, and drug addiction.  AAP is a safe place to be.  If you experience unpleasant stress, distress, despair about your life in the law, depression (is anything fun for you?), other people telling you that you have problems with alcohol or drugs, come in to a safe place.

Problems are not a sign of failure, but an opportunity for growth.  The American Medical Association and the American Bar Association state that more than one in five doctors and more that one if five lawyers experience these problems.  Come on in and talk about it.

If you are concerned about yourself or about a partner, associate, colleague, bar applicant, law student or judge, help is available here.
